Iran is about to hurl us into Armageddon! That's it everybody, there's no hope for us anymore. After killing Iran's supreme leader, the United States of America will finally anger China and Russia enough to start World War 3 and end life as we know it......THIS is the time to be very afraid.
If you watch CNN or really just your local news or social media feed, this is the type of fear mongering and apocalyptic language that you will hear. As Christians should we live with the same fear and anxiety that the world lives with when it comes to frightful world events and political conflicts? I say the answer is no, let me give you two reasons why from Isaiah chapter 8:11-13
1.) We don't walk the same way as the world!
In Isaiah chap 8 there was a growing sense of imminent danger that was felt by the Jews. They heard the whispers of conspiracies by neighboring enemies concerning their destruction. War rumors aren't fun to say the least, and they produce fear and uncertainty. God knowing this tells Isaiah something that we all should cling too " Don't walk in the way of these people" in the midst of growing panic and pandemonium God chose to give Isaiah advice on how to handle it, he says " Get off the same road that the people around you are on". The scriptures constantly remind us that not all roads lead to salvation and life but there are many paths to destruction. What does this have to do with not being afraid in these times? Simple, as Christians if we understand that we are on a different path than the world, it comforts us in times of craziness as we understand that our road leads to redemption and not disaster! The worse i see things getting in the world actually causes me to look up even more earnestly for the return of my king and savior! He's coming to save you do not destroy you......IF you are one of HIS!!
2.) We don't worship the same as the world
Whether the world knows it or not, everyone worships something! everyone holds something in their hearts as precious and set apart from everything else which is the definition of "Holy" Many worship their careers, maybe a relationship or a habit. In Isaiah 8 however, I believe God is telling us to Worship and set him apart as holy INSTEAD of government authorities and world powers. God says in verse 13 "
The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.
The people in Isaiah's day are so similar to those in our day, they had such a fear and reverence for the kingdoms of man and the powers of man but seemingly failed to have that same devout fear and honor for their GOD! The reason you and i should be bold and courageous and full of peace in these dark times is because we worship the "FATHER of LIGHTS" God alone, not the government, do we ultimately bow our knees and hearts too and the result of that is comfort in the middle of conflict and "Calm" in the middle of Chaos. Unfortunately, for the world around us, because they hold everything but our God as sacred, they lack the rest their souls seek.
Be encouraged today if you are a son or daughter of the most high GOD! no
matter how crazy or dark it gets in this world.....our father is sovereign and his SON has already overcome!
